Tim Bottoms
Managing Director

Tim joined the London Borough of Barnet in 1985 as a Countryside Co-ordinator before moving in to a role as a Training Officer for what would eventually become the Skills Training Centre.
I’m Tim and I have the privilege of serving as the Managing Director at Skills Training Centre Ltd. I’ve been with the company since its establishment in 2005, and in my role I lead projects, collaborate with our talented teams, and manage key client relationships.
My career journey began in the warehouse sector, then led me to work for a Parish Council as an Assistant Haywarden followed by farm work in Kansas. I later moved into land restoration, and in 1984, I took on the role of Countryside Co-ordinator for LB Barnet.
I then became a Training Officer in Grounds Maintenance and later the Local Authorities Skills Training Manager, overseeing training programs in civil engineering, grounds maintenance, refuse, street cleansing, building maintenance, and more.
Over 20 years, my colleagues and I developed a comprehensive Skills Training Centre that fully met the needs of local authorities and many private sector company needs as well. We also created bespoke qualifications tailored to their requirements.
In 2005, we had the opportunity and took the step to buy out the Skills Training Centre and transitioned to the private sector. This shift brought new freedoms and opportunities that were previously unavailable to us as a local authority-run training centre, setting the foundation for the company as it is today. The Team and I continue to have exciting plans for the future.
In my earlier years I’ve picked up a degree in Agricultural Economics, a Diploma in Training Management, and a City & Guilds qualification in Skills Training Instruction. Additionally, I’m an accredited Assessor and IQA, and I actively contribute to the Highways & Construction Training Association as well as serving as Chairman of the Highways Sector Scheme 18 Committee.
What I love most about my role is the pace and that every day brings a different set of challenges. No one day at the training centre is the same.
I am grateful for the dedication of our team. Their commitment to delivering quality service for our clients, day in and day out, is what makes our company truly stand out.
Outside of work, I’m married to Maggie, my best friend and I enjoy spending time with my children, hiking in the hills, reading, yoga, cinema trips, and travelling abroad.
Feel free to drop me an email or give me a ring if you’d like to collaborate, share ideas, or have any questions!
