History
From our humble beginnings in 2004 to present day, Skills Training Centre have an interesting story to tell.
Skills Training Centre Ltd was established at the end of 2004 and we started trading as a limited company on the 1 April 2005, but we started life long before that as part of the local authority delivering skills training to its front line staff.
Tim Bottoms originally established a Training Unit at Dawes Lane Mill Hill in 1988 specialising in grounds maintenance and this soon grew to include all aspects of Local Authority front line staff. The unit moved to Mill Hill Depot in 1995 and Paul Buey joined Tim in 1996 on a six month secondment from LB Barnet’s Management & Social Work Training Team, where he was the Training Administration Manager. The unit grew steadily over the next 10 years, improving the Street Works facility; and adding an underground Confined Space facility as well as offering more training to other Local Authorities and private sector organisations.
Since 2005 we have been operating as a private limited company. In that time we have grown from a team of five people (four of us are still here!) to a team of 22 people, and have quadrupled our turnover. Several of our trainers are employed by the company and we have over 200 peripatetic trainers with a huge range of expertise that we can call on to deliver our courses.
In mid-2015 we moved out of our original home in Mill Hill to three different locations. Our training rooms moved to Allianz Park (home of Saracens Rugby Team), the office moved temporarily to Barnet College in Colindale and the NRASW facility moved to a site in Watford. In 2016 the offices moved to our current home in North London Business Park, New Southgate and a year later we were able to bring the training rooms and NRASW facility under the same roof as well.
Over the last 14 years we have added 10 new product areas, comprising of over 50 courses and we believe that our diversity and ability to specialise in so many areas is key to our success.
