The Cold Comfort Exhibition 2023 is taking place on 24-25 May at Harrogate Convention Centre and it’s not to be missed!
The annual Cold Comfort conference and exhibition leads the debate at the heart of the winter and extreme weather service sector, providing the highway and transportation industry with the only specialist conference dedicated to winter and extreme weather services.
Each year, the event attracts over 350 delegates, who attend to hear from the influential policy makers and sector innovators who will be present at the conference. Expert speakers are invited in to lead discussions on the topics that matter most to those in the weather resilience network.

Winter Maintenance training
A cost effective way of making sure that winter service operations are being carried out safely and correctly is to ensure that operatives, supervisors and managers are fully trained.
At STC, we offer a range of courses relevant to the winter and extreme weather sector and we’re pleased to share that we can now also deliver the Winter Service qualifications under the LANTRA Accreditation as well as City & Guilds.
Our experienced trainers/assessors will put your staff at ease and ensure they have sufficient knowledge to enable them to operate safely and effectively. We can also provide training for managers/supervisors if required, in accordance with the scheme requirements.

Winter Maintenance 6159: Assessments - City & Guilds
Designed for those required to use winter maintenance equipment, this qualification covers a range of winter service vehicles and equipment, as well as Winter Service Operations Health and Safety and Winter Service Supervision and Monitoring. -
Winter Maintenance 6159: Training - City & Guilds
Ideal for those responsible for operating road gritting machines and snow clearing machinery, this course covers a range of topics including inspecting and checking vehicles for safety and roadworthiness, weather forecasting technology, the effects of salt on the environment, and health and safety. -
Winter Service 6159: UNIT 621 (Manager/Supervisor) - City & Guilds
Suitable for those involved in supervising and monitoring winter service operations, this qualification covers current health and safety legislation, Winter service vehicles and equipment, emergency procedures, environmental considerations and winter service operational planning and monitoring. -
Winter Service 6159: UNIT 680 (Health & Safety) - City & Guilds
Designed for anyone involved with the delivery of Winter Maintenance, this course covers a wide range of topics including various health and safety regulations, risk assessments, working practices, driver's duties and pre-start checks, emergency procedures and snow ploughing. -
Winter Service Operations: Assessments - LANTRA
Intended for those required to use winter maintenance equipment, this qualification is divided into four categories of winter service vehicles as follows: vehicles up to 3500kg (Inc tractors), vehicles 3500kg to 7500kg, vehicles and equipment over 7500kg, and snow blowers. -
Winter Service Operations: Health and Safety Awareness WSO01 - LANTRA
This course will help you understand the health and safety requirements and legislation associated with winter service operations. It covers winter service operations and the law, machine and de-icing material knowledge, working practices, and machine familiarisation. This course is also available online. -
Winter Service Operations - Training - LANTRA
Ideal for those responsible for operating road gritting machines and snow clearing machinery, this course covers a range of elements including inspecting and checking vehicles for safety and roadworthiness, weather forecasting technology, the effects of salt on the environment, and health and safety.
