Skills Training Centre - who are we?

At Skills Training Centre, we provide a comprehensive range of quality, cost effective short courses and qualifications to local authorities and private sector organisations.

We provide a reactive and professional response to training requests and our flexibility allows us to accommodate last-minute requirements as well as those booked in advance.

We are experienced in assisting with the implementation of organisation-wide training plans and we’ll work with you to ensure the training you receive meets your needs and exceeds your expectations.

Our training centre is based in North London but we can also offer most of our courses on site at your own premises, provided you have access to the appropriate equipment and facilities.

Our history

Skills Training Centre was established in late 2004 and started trading as a limited company on 1 April 2005. As a team we started life long before that as part of a local authority, delivering skills training to front line staff.

Tim Bottoms originally established a Training Unit at Dawes Lane Mill Hill in 1988, specialising in Grounds Maintenance. This soon expanded to include all aspects of local authority front line staff and the unit moved to Mill Hill Depot in 1995. Paul Buey joined Tim in 1996 and the unit grew steadily over the next 10 years, improving the Street Works facility and adding an underground Confined Space facility. It was around this time that they began to offer training to other local authorities and private sector organisations as well.

Since 2005 we have grown from a team of five, to a team of 22 and have quadrupled our turnover. Several of our trainers are employed by the company and we have over 200 peripatetic trainers with a huge range of expertise that we can call on to deliver our courses.

Our values

Values serve as a code of conduct and shape the overall atmosphere of a company, giving potential customers and employees a feel for the environment. We set our original values back in 2004 and as a great deal has changed over the past 19 years, we recently decided to update our values to ensure they still reflect the true identity of our company.

Safety
We believe that safety is everyone's responsibility. We put this before profit and at the heart of everything we do.

Honesty and Integrity
We work openly, honestly, and fairly with all our customers and each other.

Our Team, Our Strength
We value our staff and encourage their development.

Authenticity
We aim to exceed expectations for both customers and each other. We give maximum effort from beginning to end.

Customer Satisfaction
We aim to provide exceptional customer service and act in the best interest of the customer at all times.

Empathy
We treat everyone with care and consideration, supporting all with dignity and respect.

Our facilities

In 2016 our offices were relocated to our current home in North London Business Park, New Southgate, and a year later we were able to bring the training rooms and NRASW facility under the same roof as well.

Our modern training facilities ensure that our learners receive the best training in a comfortable and welcoming environment. Our facilities comprise:

  • Three large training rooms
  • A purpose-built NRSWA facility
  • A large outdoor area for courses with a practical element
  • Coming this year - we’re adding a purpose-built Confined Space facility to City & Guilds standards
  • An on-site café, where you can purchase food and drink
  • A pay and display car park is available on-site, or you may be able to secure free parking on the street
