Course aim

UNIT 301 HEALTH & SAFETY
To give delegates an awareness of the hazards and risks associated with carrying out Highway Inspection duties and the procedures in place to protect them.
To give delegates safety training input to enable delegates to go forward for 301 assessment.

UNIT 321 NRSWA AND PERMIT COMPLIANCE INSPECTIONS
To prepare candidates to undertake the Unit 321 assessments
To provide an understanding of the need to carry out NRSWA & Permit compliance inspections
To provide an understanding of the codes of practice, legislation and the local HAUC & Permit Schemes

Learning objectives

UNIT 301 HEALTH & SAFETY
By the end of the course delegates will be able to :-

  • Explain their responsibilities under the Health & Safety at Work Act 1974 and other relevant regulations
  • Discuss areas of potential danger associated with their job and the procedures in place
  • To carry out a straightforward risk assessment
  • Explain the correct reporting procedures
  • Successfully complete the 6033 Unit 301 Assessment

  • UNIT 321: NRSWA AND PERMIT COMPLIANCE INSPECTIONS
    At the end of the course, candidates should :-

  • Understand the reasons for carrying out NRASW and Permit Compliance Inspections and the different types of inspections
  • Correctly carry out inspections in accordance with the Code of Practice for Inspections 2002: other national Legislation/Codes of Practise; the local HAUC and the local Permit Scheme
  • Be able to identify who is liable for the cost of repairs
  • Be aware of how to work in accordance with the New Roads & Street Works Act
  • Understand the Reinstatement Defect Process and Signing, Lighting & Guarding Inadequacy Process
  • Understand the Opening/Closing Notices and the Coordination Code of Practice
  • Be aware of the Specification for the Reinstatement of Openings in Highways
  • Be aware of the requirements of the TMA (Traffic Management Act) 2004
  • Understand their responsibilities in relation to Section 74 of the Highways Act
  • Be aware of the requirements of the local HAUC and local Permit scheme
