Skills Training Centre, have some amazing courses available throughout the remainder of 2022 and into early next year. From Manual Handling to Fire Safety; we have a range of courses that are suitable for complete beginners or candidates looking to improve and perfect their skillset.

At Skills Training Centre, we don’t believe in delivering courses that just tick boxes, we provide training that allows our candidates to learn new skills, improve existing skills and be able to implement their skills and findings within their workplace and organisations. Working at Heights Training Course

At Skills Training Centre, we offer a wide range of Working at Heights courses for operatives; supervisors; and managers. We currently have availability on our Working at Heights 1-day course on Monday 3rd October 2022 and Monday 6th February 2023.

Our Working at Heights course is suitable for those who are required to work at height, in any occupation and at any skill level. The course aims to educate candidates on the following skills and knowledge:

Working at Heights

Asbestos Awareness Training Course

Our Asbestos Awareness course has been designed for managers, supervisors and operatives who need an awareness of asbestos. The training course will also provide candidates with the knowledge of what to do if asbestos is found or suspected.

At Skills Training Centre we currently have availability on our half-day course on Wednesday 7th December 2022.

The course aims to provide attendees with the following skills and knowledge:

  • What is Asbestos - nature forms and names.

  • Legal framework for working with Asbestos containing materials (Regulations and ACOP's).

  • Health hazards and affects.

  • Exposure limits and action levels.

  • Identification - sampling, testing and labelling.

  • Risk Assessment - for exposure and MHSW Regs.

  • Information, instruction and training requirements.

  • Duties of employees.

  • Duties to other persons (visitors etc.).

  • Health records and surveillance.

  • Control of waste, storage, labelling, licensed disposer/tip.

 Asbestos safety

Manual Handling Objects Training Course

Our Manual Handling Objects course is designed for all those who may be required to lift or move objects during the course of their work. We currently have availability on Wednesday 1st March 2023, however, spaces are very limited. 

Our Manual Handling Objects aims to provide participants with information on current manual handling legislation including risk assessments. Also included in the course:

  • Statistical information on accidents and injuries.

  • Cost considerations.

  • Health and Safety Considerations.

  • Legislation.

  • Risk assessment.

  • Injury types.

  • Skeletal and muscular.

  • Manual handling techniques.

  • Practical session on lifting and moving loads.

  • Feedback and questions.

Electrical Safety Training Course

At Skills Training Centre we host an electrical safety course which is essential for candidates who are responsible for routine electrical maintenance at their workplace. We currently have availability on our training course on Wednesday 1st February 2023. 

The Electrical Safety course aims to provide delegates with skills to safely carry out routine electrical jobs which involve plugs, fluorescent strip lights etc. The course also includes:

  • Wiring 3-pin plugs.

  • Replacing damaged light diffusers.

  • Replacing fluorescent strip lights.

  • Renew starters.

  • Identify faults in cables.

  • Inspection and safe use of power tools.

Electrical safety

Fire Safety and Extinguisher Training Course

Our Fire Safety and Extinguisher course enables candidates to recognise the different types of fires, know which type of extinguisher to use on them and how to extinguish a small fire. 

At Skills Training Centre we have 3 dates available from October - March 2023, providing both morning and afternoon slots.

The half-day course aims to provide attendees with the following skills and knowledge:

  • Definition of fire and legal responsibilities.

  • Evacuation and human behaviour.

  • Dealing with arson.

  • General fire prevention, Your role and responsibility.

  • Liaising with the Fire Service.

  • Fire safety auditing.

  • Combustion.

  • Smoke behaviour.

  • Classes of fire.

  • Fire safety signs.

  • Fire extinguishers and Fire blankets.

  • Hazards in the workplace.
