Who should attend?

All those who are responsible for carrying out Highway Safety Inspections on highways that are maintainable at public expense.
All those being put forward for City & Guilds 6033 Unit 311 Assessment.
The course will also be relevant to administration and supervisory staff responsible for managing inspectors or monitoring & recording their findings for both planned & reactive maintenance.

Course aim
  • To give delegates an awareness of the hazards and risks associated with carrying out Highway Inspection duties and the procedures in place to protect them
  • To give delegates safety training input to enable delegates to go forward for 301 assessment
  • To provide an understanding of the need to inspect publicly maintained highways and the importance of doing this
  • To provide an understanding of local Highway Asset Management Plan & the national Code of Practice for Highway Maintenance Management
  • To prepare staff due to attend City & Guilds 6033 Unit 311 Assessments

    CITY & GUILDS 6033 UNIT 301 ASSESSMENTS
    By the end of the course delegates will be able to:-

  • Explain their responsibilities under the Health & Safety at Work Act 1974 and other relevant regulations
  • Discuss areas of potential danger associated with their job and the procedures in place
  • To carry out a straightforward risk assessment
  • Explain the correct reporting procedures
  • Successfully complete the 6033 Unit 301 Assessment

    By the end of the course delegates will:-
  • Have a full understanding of what is required of them to achieve the City & Guilds 6033 Unit 311 qualification
  • Be able to identify the different types of structures, elements etc so that they can be inspected & assessed correctly
  • Be aware of how their own responsibilities have an affect on the implementation of safety inspections
  • Be aware how legislation relates to/affects the outcome of safety inspections with regards to claims and the authorities ability to be able to challenge those claims successfully
  • Have a basic knowledge of Signing, Lighting & Guarding a work-site
  • Be able to recognise defects then categorise & record them correctly
