in minibuses; coaches; and taxis.

STC are accredited with the Waste Management Industry Training & Advisory Board (WAMITAB) to deliver Refuse, Recycling and Street Cleansing NVQ's. WAMITAB was established in 1989 as the awarding body for the waste management industry with a remit to determine and advise on policy and standards of education, qualifications and training for all employees in the waste management industry.
WAMITAB has developed Level 2 National Vocational Qualifications (NVQs) covering waste (refuse) collection, recycling, and street cleansing.
STC provide a wide range of Civil Engineering and related training programmes to help
develop the skills of your staff and meet your many Health & Safety and other contract
requirements.
The law requires that employers provide whatever information, instruction and training
is needed to ensure, so far as is reasonably practicable, the health and safety of employees.
Over 200 people are killed each year in accidents at work and over one million people are
injured. Over two million suffer illnesses caused by, or made worse by, their work.
Falls from height remain the single biggest cause of workplace deaths and one of the main
causes of major injury.
During 2007/8 58 workers died and 3623 suffered a serious injury as a result of a fall from
height. Ladders remain the most common agent involved and account for more than a quarter
of all reported falls from height incidents.
We offer a range of short Health and Safety courses suitable for office staff
and facility managers. The courses are ideal for office staff who require a basic
knowledge of health and safety that is relevant to their job and for facility managers
who require more detailed knowledge in order to fulfil their role to ensure they are
fully aware of their responsibilities.
Courses are designed to be relevant and cost effective and are delivered to high
standards.
Driver CPC is short for “Driver Certificate of Professional Competence”.
This affects all professional LGV and PCV drivers.
All drivers, new and existing, now have to undertake 35 hours of training every five years to ensure that their Driver CPC remains valid. This is known as Periodic Training.
STC can provide a range of courses to help drivers meet the Driver CPC Periodic Training requirements.
We have a range of Supervision and Management programmes that are suitable for Supervisors, Team Leaders and Managers with a responsibility for delivering team performance. We firmly believe that by concentrating on individual performance we focus on one of the key elements of profitability.
We offer a range of short courses suitable for building maintenance staff and caretakers.
The courses are ideal for those required to perform a range of day to day maintenance
tasks in schools, care homes, housing associations or similar environments.
The aim of these programmes is to enable delegates to carry out either routine visual
or operational playground inspections safely, in accordance with EN1176 & EN1177
and to take appropriate follow up actions. If required, we can assess individual playground
inspectors to the national RPII standards and register their competence with RPII for 3 years.
We offer a wide range of courses associated with grounds maintenance. Most courses are targeted at operational staff, providing relevant practical training that will improve the skills of the staff attending.
The aim of the scheme is
to provide employers in the
refuse, recycling and street
cleansing industries with
a formally assessed and
recorded method of achieving
some of their health & safety
obligations.
The New Roads and Street Works Act 1991 places a
duty on any person or organisation undertaking work involving the
installation, renewal, maintenance or inspection of underground
apparatus in any street or road to ensure that work is under the
control of competent persons.
This course is predominantly intended for practical users who
need to enter spaces which are substantially enclosed and where
there is a potentially hazardous working environment. It would
also benefit managers, supervisors, engineers (who may have need
to control work in these locations) as an addition to the Confined
Spaces Risk Assessors Course. All delegates should be physically
fit, as an entry exercise will be carried out.
The Skills Training Centre offers a comprehensive
range of training and assessment for the City & Guilds 6159:
Winter Service Operations qualification. Our experienced trainers/assessors
put staff at ease and ensure they have sufficient knowledge to
enable them to operate safely and effectively. We can also provide
training and assessment for Winter Service managers and supervisors.
People at work can suffer injuries or fall ill. It doesn’t
matter whether the injury or the illness
is caused by the work they do or not. What is important is that
they receive immediate attention
and that an ambulance is called in serious cases. First Aid at
Work covers the arrangements
you must make to ensure this happens. It can save lives and prevent
minor injuries becoming
major ones.
City & Guilds 6033 Environmental Services Vocational
Qualification
Throughout the UK there is a widespread recognition of the importance of
highway maintenance and the high value placed on this both by users and
the wider community. There is also an increasing understanding of the serious
consequences of failure to invest adequately and effectively in maintaining
the local highway network, in particular the progressive deterioration
of safety, reliability, and quality, eventually requiring even greater
levels of investment in the future.
This course is intended for
those carrying out highways
inspection in their first year
of appointment and as
a useful refresher for more
experienced highway
inspectors. The course
provides a good basic
knowledge of all areas
of highways maintenance
and inspection in which
they might be involved. The
course includes a site visit
at which an inspection will
be undertaken.
The Highways & Construction Training Association’s (HCTA) Equipment Operators Registration
Scheme (EORS) focuses on a candidate’s ability to safely operate different categories of plant
and equipment. EORS is designed to provide a flexible way for plant operators to have their ability
confirmed via a Health & Safety test and a practical assessment involving the safe use of the
relevant plant and machinery. The training and assessments are carried out by our experienced
qualified Assessors.
If you would like to discuss the short course programme in more detail, please contact
