WHO SHOULD ATTEND

This course will be appropriate for all those who work with children who have no formal first aid qualifications.  It will also be suitable for 4 Day First Aid at Work and other trained staff who would benefit from an update or additional First Aid training in relation to children & babies.

OBJECTIVES

By the end of the programme delegates will be able to:-

  • Know how to cope with a child or baby emergency
  • Understand the different procedures from treatment of adult casualties

  • Introduction to first Aid
  • Recognition of injuries (history, symptoms, signs)
  • The unconscious casualty
    • Check vital signs (airway, breathing, circulation)
    • Recovery position
    • combining rescue breaths with chest compressions
  • Airway and breathing difficulties (choking, asthma, drowning etc)
  • Circulation (how it works)
    • Circulation disorders (fainting shock)
    • Head injuries (levels of response, concussion , when to enlist help etc)
    • Severe bleeding - Minor bleeding - Precautions (gloves, tetanus, HIV/Hep. B awareness)
  • Infantile convulsions & epileptic seizures
