EMERGENCY FIRST AID


AIMS

The aim of this session is to introduce delegates to the necessary course of action to take in order to apply first aid in emergency situations in confined spaces including the use of oxygen resuscitation equipment.

OBJECTIVES

At the end of this session delegates will be able to :

  • Assess the situation upon discovering an emergency in a Confined Space
  • Carry out a primary assessment of the casualty
  • Manage a casualty’s airway
  • Detect respiratory arrest
  • Apply artificial ventilation
  • Recognise circulatory collapse
  • Apply Cardio-pulmonary resuscitation
  • Understand the role of oxygen in resuscitation and know how and when to use an oxygen resuscitator and its’ role in toxic atmospheres
  • Manager an unconscious casualty
  • Carry out a secondary assessment (Top to toe survey)
  • Recognise and treat shock
  • Understand and control bleeding
  • Detect and understand the implications of head and spinal injuries
  • Know the main types of fractures and know how to immobilise them
  • Understand the implications of burns and how to treat them
  • Understand the requirement to keep records
  • Know the contents of a first aid box
  • Understand the legislation relating to First Aid at Work
