CITY & GUILDS 6159 WINTER SERVICE OPERATIONS UNIT 021 SUPERVISION & MONITORING
WHO SHOULD ATTEND
All those involved in supervising and monitoring winter service operations. It may also be suitable for duty officers and managers where appropriate.
AIMS
This programme has been developed to ensure that Winter Service Supervisors are assessed against health and safety and other duties that relate to the delivery of effective winter servicwe operations. This unit is a stand alone unit that is available to those involved in the supervision and monitoring of winter service operations.

AIMS
The qualification is divided into various catergories of winter service vehicles:
- In order to qualify for the award , an operative must pass Unit 080: Health and Safety and at least one other unit
- in order to qualify for the award, an supervisor must pass Unit 021: Winter Service Supervision & Monitoring
UNITS
The units covered are:-
- 011 Prepare and operate winter service vehicles up to 3500kg (Inc tractors)
- 012 Prepare and operate winter service vehicles 3500kg to 7500kg
- 013 Prepare and operate winter service vehicles over 7500kg Large LGV
- 014 Prepare and operate Highways Agency equipment (Foden 4000 series)
- 015 Prepare and operate Highways Agency dedicated winter service vehicles
- 040 Prepare and operate National Assembly for Wales dedicated winter service vehicles
- 050 Operate snow blower (Rolba 400 or 1000) - Highways Agency/National Assembly for Wales
- 060 Operate snow blower - dedicated
- 070 Operate snow blower - demountable

All those responsible for operating road gritting machines and snow clearing machinery.
AIMS
To provide staff with relevant information to enable them to operate the machinery safely and effectively:-

- Inspecting and checking vehicles for safety and roadworthiness
- Inspecting ploughs and practice at mounting/dismounting (if applicable)
- Explanation of spreader controls
- Weather forecasting technology
- Effects of salt on environment
- Need for calibration and correct metering and distribution

AIMS
This programme is aimed at both existing Winter Service Operatives, who need re-assessment to re-new their registration and for new or inexperienced operatives who are seeking registration for the first time:-

The unit covers eight knowledge and one practical outcome/s:
